Celebrating 25 Years of Exciting Events

March 29, 2015

Where would one call to book DJ Services, Photobooth rentals, a Mobile ZipLine, Rock Wall, and inflatable obstacle courses and giant slides?  UltraSound Special Events Inc. was established in 1990 as a mobile DJ Company and began providing interactive entertainment and inflatable amusement attractions in 1992.

This was the beginning of a boom for the development of the inflatable amusement industry and launched an entirely different type of service provide to clients.  The innovation and design of the inflatable amusement industry as well as UltraSound Special Events experienced a rapid growth within the next ten years.

UltraSound Special Events Inc. is owned by Kevin Wieging and employs approximately 13 full time employees and nearly 100 seasonal staff members throughout the year.  Locally throughout Ohio, UltraSound has a diversity of clients including Parks & Recreation Departments, Corporate clients that utilize their services for company picnics, a number of college campus clients the company works with nationally, churches, schools, and municipal festival events.  The business was established on providing hospitality, safety, and guest experience beyond just basic equipment rental.

In 2008, the company expanded again and merged business with an established tent company to establish a full service event company with resources to provide comprehensive event planning and resources to most corporate clients.  This expanded inventory to large 60’ wide tents, staging, tables, chairs, pipe and drape, and full service linen rental shortly after the acquisition.  UltraSound Special Events now operates out of a 40,000 sq.’ office and warehouse facility located near Lima, OH and a second 10,000 sq.‘ facility also located in Toledo, Oh.

The company has been focused on hospitality, safety, and providing an entertainment experience since starting 25 years ago.  They truly have been busy celebrating exciting events over the years with event programs like a Mobile Zipline, Rock Climbing walls, Trampoline amusement devices, and a large inventory of inflatable amusements including slides, bounce houses, obstacle courses, and themed designs.  Looking at what is different, exciting, and entertaining has been successful but requires an ongoing investment in the latest event trends for the industry.

Safety is a primary focus and continued to establish UltraSound as a leader in the development of industry standards and risk management programs.  Kevin Wieging, President of UltraSound was appointed as the ASTM Owner/ Operator task group co-chair in developing the F24 amusement ride standards for Air inflatable devices.  Mr. Wieging has also presented at industry tradeshows and safety programs including the Pennsylvania Amusement Ride Safety Seminars that occur twice a year in Pennsylvania.

On the full time staff at UltraSound, five (5) staff members are licensed amusement ride safety inspectors.  As the popularity of these types of inflatable amusement devices has increased, so too has the unfortunate ride accidents, and working with a reputable company is important in knowing they have the credentials and experience to manage and produce events safely for the public to enjoy.  Most accidents are a result of improper installation, poor anchoring of inflatable units, and inadequate supervision of children participating.  All these are preventable accidents expressed Wieging.

The Company has substantially grown over the last 25 years and continues to look for new and innovative entertainment concepts and guests experiences that can expand on the success of their existing events.  “Because of our commitment to our clients in offering new and innovative attractions, the success over the years has not been simply on behalf of UltraSound, but we have been able to see the events that our clients are planning evolve and grow” said Wieging, President of UltraSound.  “Many appreciate the convenience of having the experience and resources we’ve acquired as a company to provide assistance in event planning.”

What’s next in events for UltraSound Special Events?  “We have developed a national presence for providing exciting events for college campuses, yet it is our regional focus for Corporate events and larger events like the “Toledo Walleye Fanfest” that have been important to us because they are in our local area.  We have also developed many relationships in the campus event community, Corporate event planning, Parks and Rec for city festivals, 4th of July and other Holiday events, and we’ve really expanded our ability to manage and entire event from tents, tables, seating, and entertainment that provides a bright future”.
